Merry and Bright Ornaments {Acorns}

I'm already focused on Christmas even though we've barely started fall.  Sometimes I find a way to combine the two and this is my favorite example.  Needle felted wool acorn ornaments.  In these psychedelic colors they work on a feather tree or wreath now, and move right into Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If you want to make your own....
  1. Take a small amount of wool (you can always add more, but you can't take away) and poke it repeatedly with a felting needle.  It has to be a felting needle... a regular needle won't do!
  2. Push the needle into the wool (using a foam pad - seriously) and constantly rotate.  Move it often so it doesn't stick to the pad and continue jabbing until it starts to shape into a ball.
  3. Dunk it into hot soapy water and roll in your hands until it hardens and becomes the shape you desire.  This is the part that reminds you of that sweater your shrunk in the wash.
  4. Squeeze the water out and let dry.
  5. Glue into an acorn cap.
You can see pictures of the needle felting process here.  I added ribbons to these to make acorn ornaments.  The ornaments and a DIY needle felting kit for pinecone trees is available for purchase here.
